With approximately 110 lakes and ponds, 100 miles of fishable streams, and a precious
expanse of breathtakingly beautiful land, the Colorado Flattops Wilderness area is some of the
best country Colorado has to offer for scenic horseback rides, fishing, wildlife viewing and
outdoor photography. As Colorado's second largest Wilderness area, the Flattops is home to a
variety of wildlife, including elk, deer, black bear, mountain lion, big horn sheep and an
occasional moose.

HHGS, which is nestled above Sweetwater Lake and on the edge of the Flattops Wilderness,
provides summer tourists, photographers and fisherman with guided horseback rides and
overnight pack trips into the Flattops and some of the most pristine mountain territory in the
State.

Summer Trips
High Country Excursions to Meet A Variety of Needs
HHGS's summer season begins around the middle of June, depending on the remaining snow
cover. Summer weather in the Flattops is very enjoyable with long days of sunshine,
occasional afternoon showers and cool evenings.

We offer half day and full day trail rides for guests who have limited time or desire just a taste
of the high country; for those looking for a longer outdoor getatway, our overnight pack trips to
our summer camp are a great option. All of our rides and pack trips begin at our headquarters
and pack station, and require a two-person minimum.
